Prior to joining Birch Kaufman LLC, Wes worked for a large intellectual property firm in Indianapolis, as a patent attorney. Though he no longer focuses his practice primarily on patent work, while working for the intellectual property firm, Wes gained invaluable experience solving complex legal and technical problems for a wide variety of clients, including several Fortune 500 companies.

Wes was excited to return to his hometown of Nappanee, Indiana in October of 2019, and has since changed the focus of his legal career. Wes now seeks to use his prior experience to serve the needs of the Kosciusko and Elkhart County communities. He focuses his practice primarily in the areas of debt collection, criminal defense, and family law. Wes also represents clients in the areas of business and corporate law, real estate, civil litigation, as well as patent, trademark, and copyright.

Wes graduated from Indiana University at Bloomington with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry in 2013. He then spent two years in California pursuing a music career, where he met his wife, Kaitlyn. Upon return to Indiana, he attended Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law where he graduated cum laude in 2018.

Wes now lives in Nappanee with his wife, and they are expecting their first child in late August of 2021. Wes enjoys spending time with his family and friends, and his hobbies include golfing, barbecuing, and occasionally playing keys with his uncle John Kirkwood’s band.
