Laura E. Kaufman


Laura E. Kaufman is an attorney with 25+ years of experience who practices primarily in the areas of estate planning, elder law, real estate, probate & trust administration and litigation. She also represents clients in the areas of corporate and real estate law, including business formation, contract preparation, real estate transfers, civil litigation, and not-for-profit issues.  Her civil litigation experience includes (but is not limited to) landlord/tenant disputes, collections, and real estate disputes.  

Prior to forming Birch Kaufman LLC in 2018, she practiced for 12 years at Snyder Morgan Federoff & Kuchmay LLP in Syracuse. Laura also served for three years as the Executive Director of Combined Community Services, Inc. and two years as the Executive Director of the Warsaw Housing Authority. Prior to her work in the not-for-profit arena, she practiced in the area of estate planning and probate with Gordon & Associates, P.C. in Wells County, Indiana.

Laura graduated from the University of Maryland Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business in 1994.  She was awarded a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from Indiana University School of Law at Indianapolis in 1997. Laura was also a Yeoman Second Class in the United States Navy (1988-1994), where she was awarded a Navy Commendation Medal as well as two Navy Achievement Medals.

Laura currently lives on Lake Wawasee in Syracuse, Indiana with her husband Scott. She has two sons, Nick and Jake, both of whom graduated from Ball State University. Outside of spending time with family, friends and her dog Rufus at the lake, her other hobbies include biking, kayaking and watching Colts football.

Laura is also dedicated to serving her community. She is a current volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters. Previous not-for-profit involvement and board membership includes: CASA of Kosciusko County, Habitat for Humanity of Kosciusko County, Red Cross of Kosciusko County, Warsaw Salvation Army Advisory Board, Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts, Kosciusko Cares Youth Services, Inc., and the Alpha Lambda Chapter of Tri Kappa.
